Metro Airlines, originally founded in 1969 as Houston Metro Airlines for its service between Houston Intercontinental Airport and SE Houston area communities such as Galveston and Clear Lake City's NASA STOLport, was a commuter airline that was originally headquartered in Houston, Texas. As it expanded northward to Texas and Oklahoma, it added Shorts 330s to the Twin Otters and Beech 99s already in service. It began flying under the American Eagle banner in 1984 and ended service to Houston in 1985. It went bankrupt in 1993 with assets being absorbed by AMR.
