United became the first airline to serve all 50 states in 1984. In February 1986 United would purchase Pan Am's entire Pacific operations and it's 747SPs and L-1011-500s for $425 million dollars. Japan, Bangkok, Manila, Singapore, Shanghai, Bejing, Seoul, Australia, and New Zealand were added. These became the most profitable parts of the system.
