2003 - March 1

The 2003 map featured extended service to a Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, and San Juan as well as a new image. In 2007, Spirit would undergo another business and image metamorphosis becoming an ultra low cost carrier targeting Latin America and the Caribbean. The fleet would be standardized around new A320/319 platform. Fares would drop as low as $10, with everything from beverages to checked bags becoming ala carte. Interestingly enough for an ultra LCC, Spirit offers a quasi business class up front called "Big Front Seats". The service is minimal but the seats are a 2/2 configuration and very comfortable. Service would suffer as the airline continued to grow particularly at its Ft Lauderdale base where it became the #1 carrier. The airline is privately owned, thus not reporting financial results, but is said to be losing substantial money. In 2008, a new branding image was introduced moving away from this "all business" look. My experience with the airline has been good when I've flown it.
