People's launched with a fleet of Boeing 737-100s (ex-Lufthansa) in 1981 from the old Newark North Terminal. Initial destinations included Boston, Columbus, and Norfollk, with Jacksonville coming on shortly thereafter. The airline was practically an overnight phenomena until over-expansion and lack of a strong computer reservation system, fated it to to a takeover by ironically Frank Lorenzo's Continental.
