Mexicana is one of the oldest airlines in the world, having been founded in 1921. It was the only airline in the Americas to operate the Comet. It has traditionally been the short haul airline as opposed to more long haul service from Aeromexico. In 1982, Mexican became a government owned company reverting to private ownership in 1989 with a complete reorganization. In 1981, Boeing 727s and a few DC-10s were the bulk of the fleet
