La Paz based Aero California's operations are centered around the Baja peninsula from Tijuana to Cabo. It was founded in 1960 using the DC-3. DC-9s joined the fleet in 1982. U.S. routes to LA began in 1990. For a time in the mid 2000s, the airline was grounded by the Mexican government owing to "safety concerns".
