Hawaiian's service to the mainland U.S., launched in 1985, had proven so successful that services were extended to Vegas, Alaska, Portland, and Vancouver by 1988. Also, destinations now stretched to Australia, New Zealand, and Guam. DC-8s also continued to serve the South Pacific destinations.
