At this time Frontier was a year away from its demise in August, 1986. Frontier was acquired by People Express. The merger was ill-fated as People's fortunes crumbled. Frontier's high-cost high end structure was not compatible with People's low cost limited service approach. The Convairs were gone by 1982, leaving Frontier mainline with an all-jet fleet. The 737s had been joined by MD-80s. By 1985, schedules had been curtailed with Atlanta, Detroit, and all Mexican routes abandoned.
