Air Inter began operations in 1958 and became the dominant French domestic carrier. Air France purchased the airline in 1994, and the name Air Inter disappeared altogether by 1997. Of note, the airline was the only operator of the Dassault Mercures, a 737 competitor it flew from 1975-1994.
