As South Africa opened up to the world, SAA become a world class airline in the late 1990s. It switched from Sky Team to the One World Alliance and is in the process of converting to an all Airbus fleet. Until 2000, SAA operated the world's longest scheduled flight, New York to Capetown. SAA is noteworthy for transferring its US hub from New York to Miami then to Atlanta then to Washington D.C. as it switched airline alliances.
