By 2004, Delta was in the worst shape of the domestic mainline carriers and in 2005, would file a shocking chapter 11 bankruptcy petition. Shocking because Delta, for years was the most stable, profitable, and familial of U.S. airlines. The legendary Delta service had virtually disappeared as labor versus management strife tore through the airline. Late in 2005, Delta announced its Song LCC subsidiary would be folded back into Delta mainline, borrowing elements such as the excellent Live TV product and inflight buy on board menu on long haul 757 coast to coast flights. Delta was my personal favorite airline.It would emerge from bankruptcy in early 2007, announce a merger with Northwest in early 2008, finally gain access to Heathrow, only to be crippled by the Oil Shock of 2008.
