This schedule features the launch of Delta's much sought after Chicago to Miami route. Prior to this CAB award, Delta operated only an East-West schedule from Texas to Georgia. The DC-4s were specifically purchased for this route which was the beginning of Delta transforming from a small regional carrier to a major. This award put Delta squarely in competition with Eastern, a rivalry which would last until Eastern's 1991 demise.
