Air Jamaica was established in 1968 as a joint venture between the Candian and Jamaican governments with DC-9 and DC-8 service to Miami and New York. Basically insolvent and under government control, it was merged with Trinidad & Tobago based Caribbean Airlines (formerly BWIA) to form the largest airline based in the Caribbean.
