Montreal based Air Transat began as a charter carrier in 1987 and quickly become part of the Canadian scheduled airline mainstream. Initially flying L1011s long-haul, it is now a large Airbus A330 operator. One of its A330s, flight 236, had the misfortune of running out of fuel and barely landing safely in the Azores Islands.
