Hong Kong based Dragonair began in the early 90s to serve predominantly mainland China destinations from Hong Kong not served by then British-owned Cathay, along with other secondary routes. Cathay is a major shareholder in the airline. Since the 1997 Handover of Hong Kong to China, Dragonair has become a huge success story, becoming even more profitable than big brother/competitor Cathay. Dragonair operates an all Airbus fleet with 320s and 330s.
