China Airlines was founded in 1959 to provide air service for Taiwan. China Airlines has been successful from a financial standpoint, but has suffered one of the world's worst safety records in spite of operating a modern fleet of 747-400s, MD-11s, and A-340s. In recent years, this airline has mounted an impressive turnaround.
