America West is one of the stronger survivors of the ongoing airline crisis. At this point, it had dismantled its Columbus, Ohio hub. But, it had introduced an innovative fare structure and even pioneered selling meals onboard in the U.S. In May 2005, America West and US Airways announced a merger to form a new lower nationwide airline. America West isthe controlling party, with headquaters in Phoenix. However, the more well known and geographically encompassing US Airways name survived. Hubs are in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Charlotte with focus cities of Washington D.C., and Pittsburgh. In 2007, USAirways would attempt a takeover of Delta which fortunately failed as the USAirways and America West merger has been plagued with integration difficulties.
