By 1982, Alaska had extended service in the lower 48 to California and Oregon. Alaska primarily operated 727-200s in the early 80s as MD-80s just began entering the fleet. Alaska also had fortified interchange flights with Continental and American as a "Pipeline" Express between oil industry cities and Alaska. The Tulsa/Wichita service was through-plane all the way to the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska.
