Our friend Doug Scroggins undertook the first recent scrapping of an airliner at LAX. An AA Boeing 767-200 suffered an explosion of one of its engines during a ground run in 2007. No one was hurt but fragments of the pylons and engine were spewed 100s of feet away. This mid 80s vintage airliner was written off as a total loss and scrapped in October and November, 2008.
