"Spirit of Delta" Boeing 767-200 Business Elite Cabin (2009)
Delta's employees purchased this $30 million dollar Boeing 767-200, Delta's first, for the airline back in 1982. At the time, Delta was going through a financially turbulent time, and 3 flight attendants began a systemwide fundraiser that resulted in the purchase of this 767. This would be almost unheard of today in the airline business, or any business for that matter. "The Spirit" became the ambassador for Delta in its 24 years of commercial service until its 2006 retirement. Over this time, it wore 4 paint schemes including one for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and another commemorating the airline's 75th Anniversary. This landmark aircraft has been repainted to its original 1982 delivery livery and is now featured prominently in Hanger Two at the Delta Heritage Museum in Atlanta. The rear of the cabin is a meeting room, the mid-fuselage is an impressive museum display, while a small part of the economy and first class cabin remains intact. This amazing aircraft is only open certain days of the week, so it is best to call ahead.
