The world's largest flying aircraft, of which there is only one in airworthy condition, is profiled here. It was originally flown in 1988 for use as a transporter in the Soviet space program. When the USSR brokeup in 1991, the AN-225 was parked where it sat for nearly 10 years. In 2001, it took to the skies again as the world's largest freighter. A second example is partially completed and may very well join the 225 as demand increases for this one of a kind aircraft.
