St. Louis Lambert Field
St. Louis Lambert Aiport is in the midst of a major transition as of 2004. TWA was for years the hometown and dominant airline here. Following the 2000 takeover by American Airlines, the St. Louis hub was expected to survive. However due to the precarious state of American and facing an onslaught of new competition from Southwest, the St. Louis hub was significantly cutback with many services shifting from mainline to Eagle. STL no longer offers any non-stop flights to Hawaii or London, and very rare widebody service. However, with the coming construction at O'Hare some AA service may shift back to this backup hub at least temporarily. At one time, Eastern and Delta also had a significant presence here. Now, Southwest is on its way to being the dominant carrier with its own dedicated terminal.
