Portland International Jetport is the largest airport in Maine. It is served by JetBlue, AirTran and the regional divisions of the mainline US carriers with the exception curiously of the ubiquitous American Eagle. Delta operates one mainlight flight a day, to Atlanta. The current terminal, which opened in 1968, has been beautifully rebuilt.

The airport was the starting point of Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz al-Omari's travels on September 11, 2001. The pair flew to Boston, where they boarded American Airlines Flight 11 and later hijacked it and crashed it into One World Trade Center. Their rental car was later taken from the Jetport.
