Palm Beach International Airport Photos and History - West Palm Beach, Florida USAPBI is one of the three major commercial airports serving the southeast coast of Florida. PBI opened as Morrison Field in 1936. It became Palm Beach International Airport in 1947 as Mackey Airways initiated service to the Bahamas. In 1966, a new terminal was built which would soldier on until October, 1988 when the current modern David McCampbell Terminal opened. This is a very spacious, lovely facility with 3 concourses and one of the earlier behind security shopping concourse. All major carriers serve PBI but Delta and now Southwest dominate. International services are provided by WestJet, CanJet, Air Canada, and Bahamasair. The only wide-body services are when Delta schedules a 767-300. This airport holds significance to the webmaster as I spent much time here during my childhood shuttling between Tulsa, Oklahoma and my grandparentsÂ' home in South Palm Beach. I am looking for original images of the 1966 and 1974 terminals.
