There was an outcry by the British public when British Airways launched its ill-fated "World Colors" program in 1997 . Many considered it undignified for the nation's flag carrier to carry such a gaudy scheme, and with the exception of Concorde, the Union Jack was dropped from the livery on the entire fleet as BA tried to reposition itself as a global carrier rather than a British based one. Richard Branson seized upon BA's mistep to add the UK flag to the winglets and the Scarlet Lady on the Virgin fleet, poking his finger in BA's eye. BA eventually ditched the World Colors and repainted all the fleet with the Chatham Dockyard UK flag scheme seen on this Airbus Airbus A320.
