Bangor International Airport Curbside
Bangor International Airport, BGR, is not your typical small airport..not by a long-shot! Up until the 1990s, it was a fueling and technical stopover for trans-Atlantic traffic, particularly charters. This is particularly due to its location as the most Northeastern airport in the US. During both Gulf Wars, BGR has been a major stopover and disembarking point for US Troops heading to/from overseas conflict. The airport has a very active "Troop Greeters" organization and USO. It is still used for weather and technical diversions. These photos of unusual visitors can be seen in the airport restaurant. It is also an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle, though that has never been used.
Commercial service is provided by Delta Airlines mainline, Allegiant, Delta Connection, Continental Express, Northwest Airlink, and US Airways Express. The airport is undergoing a renovation and expansion at the present time.
